Within the Biochemical Analysis and Characterization team of the Analytical Sciences Netherlands Department and part of dsm-firmenich’s global Science and Research (S&R) organization, we are looking for a:
Scientist Biochemical Analysis & Characterization
As Scientist Biochemical Analysis & Characterization, you will lead a small team of researchers on Enzyme Characterization & Quantification, and you will report to the leading Senior Scientist leading the Biochemical Analysis & Characterization. You will work on diverse multidisciplinary innovation projects as analytical sciences expert.

Your mission:
Leverage your broad knowledge of biochemical and analytical techniques to contribute to strategic research projects, using fit for purpose analytical approaches.
As technical leader of the Enzyme Characterization and Quantification team, along with peer team leads, ensure quality and development of the scientific field
With a strong problem-solving mindset, identify high quality practical solutions actively challenge the status quo.
As a people manager: attract, lead, develop and appraise employees to ensure proper staffing.
Responsibility for Quality, Environment, Safety and Health (QESH) matters related to the team.

You bring:
PhD level or equivalent experience in chemical, biochemical, microbiology, biotechnology, or related fields. A link with analytical sciences is a must-have.
Solid track record of working with enzymes/proteins: Experience with enzyme assays, bioassays, high throughput screening, enzyme kinetic analysis, enzyme modelling & engineering, biocatalysis, enzyme purification, and automation of enzyme assays/bioassays is a prerequisite. Desirable: characterizing enzyme reactions with MS or NMR.
A strong skill set for handling and visualizing complex data sets and have experience with implementing FAIR data principles. Accompanying computational skills are preferred.
Cultural awareness: actively engages in dialogue, foster trust within own team and across organization. Collaborate effectively as a team player.
Resilience and flexibility, also under stressful situations.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to understand different audiences and translate and convey complex data and get the message across, to create impact.
3 years experience in bio-analytical sciences, some form of industrial experience desired.
People management skills: Focus on operational management, individual and team development. Alternatively, demonstrate a track record or affinity for coaching and leading groups (e.g., community service, sports)
High proficiency in English, working knowledge of Dutch is an asset
